Dam Crazy is an amazing camp ground just outside of Childers, Queensland. It is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy some time swimming and kayaking around the large dam. Be sure to book a couple of nights to truly enjoy this special place.

Where and How to Get There

Once you book through Hipcamp, specific directions will be provided to you. There will be a couple of kilometres of gravel road – but it is easily accessible for 2WD and caravans.

20 minutes from Childers and 1 hour from Bundaberg and Maryborough.

About Dam Crazy

This campsite will provide a great opportunity to disconnect – there are no powered sites available. We did have Telstra and Optus phone reception) and there are only a limited number of campers that can stay at a time – 50. This gives you a real sense of privacy and comfortability.

The only thing that we could suggest to campers, is to bring some levelling ramps (or something similar), as quite a lot of the land has a gentle slope.

As there were only a few other people while we were there, we were able to pick a very level spot for our campervan (the old ‘tee-off’ area. This property once served as golf course).

After a chat with Brendon, the host, we began to realise how much effort had gone into transforming this place into such an amazing campground.

You can read this on the website of Dam Crazy:

Early 2019 the owners of Dam Crazy, Brendon and Miranda made the move to Queensland from the New Zealand Coastal town of Mangawhai in search of a slice of the great Aussie outdoors.

Initially faced with what they could only describe as a 625 acre overgrown rural scrapyard, they were determined to turn it into a vision that perhaps at the time only they could see.”

It’s hard to imagine that not long ago, this property was run down and littered with rusting vehicles. Brendon said they took out truckloads of rubbish!

For us, we (as I’m sure other travellers do), not only appreciate an awesome campground BUT also appreciate a good host. There’s been nice spots that we won’t go back to purely because management weren’t friendly and hospitable or the grounds weren’t maintained.

This wasn’t the case for Dam Crazy – it’s one of those places we’d go back to and recommend to others.

Be sure to book in your stay at Dam Crazy – it’s well priced for the atmosphere and experience.

Brendon and Miranda have big plans to renovate the jetty and perhaps even construct a cabin on the far side of the dam.
